Hyacinth Elliott

A Tribute to Our Beloved Mum, Hyacinth

Hyacinth Elliott was born in Jamaica on June 11, 1928, to Vernon and Inez Senior. From an early age, she embodied strength, kindness, and determination—qualities that would define her entire life.

Mum’s journey through life was marked by love and family. She was blessed with two children, Belsie and Osborne, before marrying Alfred Elliott, who had a daughter, Dasmie Rose. Together, they built a beautiful life, welcoming Allen and Jean. In 1958, Mum took a courageous step, moving to England, where she and Alfred expanded their family further, raising Beverley, Trevor, Max, and Martin.

She worked hard to provide for her family, taking on roles as a machine piece worker from home, a dedicated worker at Peck Freans, and a broom maker. But beyond her work, Mum’s true passion was her faith. As a Missionary and Mother in the Church, she dedicated her life to serving others, always guiding with wisdom, love, and an unshakable belief in God.

Mum was a pillar of the Lewisham community. No matter where we went, people knew her—and, by extension, us! She touched countless lives with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith. Her presence was a blessing, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Mum’s legacy is one of love, faith, and resilience. She taught us the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the power of kindness. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit remains, guiding us with the same love and strength she always gave so freely.

Rest in eternal peace, Mum. Your love will always be with
